The Murtala Muhammed Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced a remarkable revenue achievement of ₦202.9 billion for the year 2025, reflecting a 13% increase from the ₦181.01 billion generated in 2024. This impressive performance highlights the Command’s effectiveness in revenue generation and compliance enforcement.
According to Comptroller G.A. Otunla, the Customs Area Controller, the Command surpassed its annual revenue target, achieving 113% of the goal set for the year. Otunla attributed this success to several key factors, including enhanced trader compliance, rigorous monitoring of import transactions, and the timely detection of irregularities.
In a statement addressing the media, Comptroller Otunla expressed gratitude for the hard work of the Customs officers and the collaborative efforts with sister agencies. He emphasized the vital role played by compliant traders and licensed customs agents in facilitating this outstanding performance.
“Today, we reaffirm our commitment to transparency and accountability while fostering continuous engagement with stakeholders,” Otunla stated. “These principles align perfectly with the mandate of the Nigeria Customs Service to facilitate trade and generate substantial revenue for the nation.”
The Command’s strategic measures to curb revenue leakages have also been instrumental in achieving this record revenue. As the Customs Service continues to seek innovative ways to improve efficiency and compliance, the Murtala Muhammed Area Command sets a precedent for success within the industry.
As the year progresses, the Murtala Muhammed Area Command is determined to maintain its momentum, aiming to further enhance its revenue generation capabilities while continuing to support Nigeria’s economic growth through fair and efficient customs practices.
