There is palpable tension in Enugu State as some gunmen attacked Orba in the Udenu local government area and Eha-Alumona in Nsukka LGA killing two policemen and two officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on duty in the communities.

The attack came barely 24 hours after two policemen on stop-and-search were attacked and killed by some gunmen in Enugu State metropolis, less than a kilometre to the Government House.

The attack started from Premier Junction at Eha-Alumona in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State and proceeded to Army check point at Orba in Udenu Local Government Area of the state at about 4 pm in the evening of Saturday, May 11, 2024 and lasted till 10pm.

Several policemen and officials of Road Safety escaped with various degrees of injury as the hoodlums rained bullet.

The hoodlums also attacked and set ablaze a hillux van belonging to HRH Igwe Patrick Eze, popularly known as Igwe Waziri, the traditional ruler of Egali Amalla Community in Udenu Local Area of the Sate.

The monarch who was reportedly caught on the web of the attacks, miraculously escaped unhurt.

The gunmen also burnt the FRSC van during the carnage.

Meanwhile, when SaharaReporters contacted the police commissioner in the state, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, for reaction on the incident, he said “I am not aware of the incident. Please contact the Police Public Relations Officer on that.”

However, efforts to get the Command’s spokesperson DSP Daniel Ndukwe, were unsuccessful as he could not take his calls or respond to a text message inquiry as at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has vowed to apprehend the assailants with all the resources available to the government.
