Yusuf Buhari, son of Nigeria’s late former president Muhammadu Buhari, has officially declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections.
In a letter dated April 3, 2026, titled “Expression of Interest to Contest for the Seat of House of Representatives, Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency,” Yusuf said he would run under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He noted that his decision followed extensive consultations with party stakeholders.
“I wish to contest for the seat… as my contribution to ensure good and qualitative leadership,” he stated, emphasizing his goal of promoting infrastructural and human capital development in the constituency.
The announcement was confirmed by Bashir Ahmad, former special assistant on digital communications to the late president, who highlighted that Yusuf’s decision came after wide consultations with local leaders and party stakeholders.
The move comes shortly after APC stakeholders in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State endorsed Yusuf as their preferred candidate for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency. At a high-level meeting held at the Sandamu LGA Secretariat, council chairman Usman Na-Lado described the endorsement as a collective decision, citing Yusuf’s capacity and acceptance among party members.
The meeting also reaffirmed support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Dikko Radda as the APC’s presidential and governorship candidates for the 2027 elections.
