The sacking of Alhaji Garba Abubakar as Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has triggered excitement among workers in the agency.
In trending videos, the workers were captured celebrating the sacking of Abubakar by President Bola Tinubu.
Tinubu on Friday in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media & Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale announced the sacking of Abubakar and other Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of agencies under the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.
In one of the videos, a crowd is seen dancing close to the CAC headquarters with a voice in the background explaining that the workers were celebrating the removal of the Registrar General of the agency.
Some of the workers also held a rally in front of the CAC headquarters in Abuja on Monday morning where they described Abubakar as a “tyrant leader”.
The workers expressed their gratitude to President Tinubu for appointing a new Registrar for the commission.
They emphasised the need for the new leader to stop the ‘anti-labour policies of the previous administration’.
“We want to appreciate the President, Bola Tinubu for sacking the wicked, sadist as the Registrar General of CAC,” one of them said while addressing journalists.
There had been a prolonged labour crisis at the commission over a misunderstanding between the Abubakar-led management and the staff.
The workers had accused the sacked Abubakar of highhandedness, corruption, double-standard and gross abuse of office.
Even though he denied all the allegations, the workers had insisted on his removal from office on several occasions.
In 2021, the workers under the aegis of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE) petitioned the National Assembly, Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and the Presidency over allegations of corruption and victimisation against Abubakar.
The union asked the presidency to prevail on Abubakar to stop “his victimisation of its executives, rescind their transfer outside the headquarters, stop witch hunting and an impending outright sacking by the commission”.
