26-year-old woman identified as Titilayo Akinsola, reportedly died of Lassa fever on Saturday January 25 at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Idi-Aba community of Abeokuta, Ogun State’s capital.
The hospital’s spokesperson, Segun Orisajo who confirmed the death told newsmen that series of tests showed the deceased had Lassa fever. He also disclosed that they did everything possible to save her life.
“She (the victim) was rushed to the hospital four days ago and series of tests confirmed that she had Lassa fever. Our medical team did everything possible to save her life but unfortunately she died.” Orisajo said;
Orisajo allayed fears of members of the public by stating that they are working with the state government to contain the spread of the disease. Ogun State’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker has also confirmed the development.
