Why Buhari Govt Will Not Name, Shame Boko Haram Sponsors

The Presidency has given reasons why the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration will not name and shame Boko Haram/ISWAP sponsors.

Recall that the federal government had in May this year stated that it would soon begin the prosecution of some highly placed Nigerians suspected to be financing terrorism in the Northeast.

Truetells Nigeria had earlier reported that the United Arab Emirates authorities in the course of the week identified six Nigerians as financiers of terrorism.

Nigerians placed on the watch list were Abdurrahman Ado Musa, Salihu Yusuf Adamu, Bashir Ali Yusuf, Muhammed Ibrahim Isa, Ibrahim Ali Alhassan and Surajo Abubakar Muhammad

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, stated that Buhari is not interested in naming and shaming terrorism sponsors.

According to the presidential spokesperson, the federal government is only interested in prosecuting them.

He said: “Naming and shaming will not be the motive, bringing malefactors to justice will be it.

“Nigeria is not interested in naming and shaming anybody. Rather, it wants to bring them to justice.

“You will see that the United Arab Emirates has given some names and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) has reacted to that matter, saying that in due course, all these people will have their dates in court. Rest assured that these people will be dragged before justice and justice will have its way.”

Femi Adesina said agencies like Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) are working to get solid evidence against these terrorism financiers before charging them to court.

“Investigations are going on at different levels; it will be at the level of the EFCC, it will be at the level of the NIA. All the security agencies will be working on it so that when those people eventually appear in court, there will be a prima facie case against them,” he said.

You don’t first call people before the court and start looking for evidence against them later. No! The cases will be tied up before they appear in court.”
