Truetells Nigeria earlier reported that Sammie Okposo on Friday morning died at age 51 in Lagos State, while he was being treated for exhaustion.
Sharing a photo of Sammie Okposo and his beautiful wife on Instagram, Sonnie Badu, expressed appreciation to the wife of the late singer, Ozioma.
He noted that Ozioma is a good woman as she stood behind her husband amidst the trying times.
According to Sonnie, Sammie said many good things about his wife, especially giving a covering to him when he needed it.
He wrote: “I just want to say thank you to Mrs Okposo. You are a good woman. You stood behind your husband until the end. He said so many good things about you in his challenging moments. Thank you, thank you, thank you for covering him when he needed it .. Rest well #LandLord #RipSammieOkposo
“May-day… May-day a soldier is down !! @sammieokposo LANDLORD… You not picking up your phone… JESUS !!! Africa has just lost a General… The world of gospel music has lost a General … BROTHER BROTHER REST IN PEACE … Rest well .. WELU-WELU master”
The incident that led to Okposo’s death was confirmed by his colleague, Righteousman in a chat with Saturday Vanguard.
Righteousman in his reaction to Okposo’s sudden death described it as tragic, adding that the singer had also collapsed last week following his return from his praise party concert in the UK.
According to Righteousman, Okposo after collapsing last week was being treated for exhaustion before he eventually slumped.
He lamented that his colleague was a workaholic who hardly found time to rest
Righteousman noted that he would miss Okposo whom he said has influenced a lot of young Nigerian gospel singers.
He added that Okposo before his death served God and not man, adding that he would miss him.
Righteousman took the opportunity to appeal to people to learn to take time to rest.
