The United States Mission in Nigeria has announced the suspension of regular updates on its official Facebook account due to a lapse in appropriations affecting government operations.
According to the Mission in a statement on Wednesday, only urgent safety and security information would be shared with the public during this period, while all routine updates would be suspended until full operations resume.
It further clarified that scheduled passport and visa transit services in the United States and at American embassies and consulates overseas would continue as the situation permits.
“Due to the lapse in appropriations, this Facebook account will not be updated regularly until full operations resume, with the exception of urgent safety and security information.”
The Mission explained that although normal updates have been suspended, consular services remain available and are not entirely disrupted by the appropriations lapse.
“At this time, scheduled passport and visa transit services in the United States and at U.S. Embassies and Consulates overseas will continue during the lapse in appropriations as the situation permits.”
It also stressed again that only emergency alerts would be published online until government funding was restored.
“We will not update this account until full operations resume, with the exception of urgent safety and security information.”
However, the Mission did not provide any timeline for the resumption of full online communication, leaving applicants and the general public dependent on emergency information updates.
