UNILAG, Bowen In Twitter Fight Over Nigerian Singer Rema

The University of Lagos has responded to pleas from popular Nigerian singer, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, as the latter complained about the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

Via its official handle, the institution said it has chosen Rema, advising the singer not to change his mind about this choice of school.

Taking a cue from one of Rema’s song, UNILAG tweeted, “Hmm… Rema dear, UNILAG has chosen you o. Hmm… so don’t let anybody come dey change your mind o. Rema no dey vex for us o.”

In his response, Rema said, “Awww UNILAG, end the strike or I will go ooo. we want to go back to school. Please, the youths are not happy!”

Using lyrics from Rema’s hit song ‘Calm Down’, UNILAG responded, “Rema, calm down.”

Shortly after UNILAG’s tweet, Bowen University which had earlier wooed the singer to join the institution also responded to Rema’s latest tweet, saying, “Every Nigerian youth deserves true happiness and most importantly, value for their time. Choose value and happiness today, don’t let them tell you otherwise. You are loved.”

Truetells Nigeria reports that the singer had earlier pleaded with ASUU to call off its ongoing strike. The Lady crooner tweeted on Monday that since his admission into the University of Lagos, he had yet to commence his studies.

The Mavin Records signee announced to his fans in January that he had gained admission to the University of Lagos.

However, Bowen university which is located at Iwo in Osun State replied to the singer’s tweet, saying Rema won’t be delayed by the ASUU strike if he joined the private institution.

The University of Lagos Also advised singer Rema not to allow anyone to influence him towards changing his mind about the admission the school granted to him.

Rema had taken to social media to lament his inability to resume since gaining admission into UNILAG due to the strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

He tweeted in Pidgin English, “ASUU, since dem give me admission I neva start school o, e don do nau!”

His post was seen by a private school, Bowen University, which pointed out one of the benefits he would enjoy if he schooled with them.

“ASUU can’t delay you if you’re enrolled in Bowen University,” the school said.

In response, Rema called UNILAG’s attention to the tweet by Bowen, saying, “Unilag private university don dey Toast me o, I’m blushing omg stop it.”

UNILAG responded, saying, “Hmm… Rema dear, UNILAG has chosen you o, Hmm… so don’t let anybody come dey change your mind o…Rema no dey vex for us o
