UNICAL mobilised a bread seller who didn’t attend the school for service – NYSC

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has revealed a shocking case alleged of fraud involving the University of Calabar, Cross River State.

According to Ahmed, among those recently mobilized for the NYSC scheme was a bread seller who had never attended the university.

This disclosure comes on the heels of the NYSC’s decision to void 101 certificates, bringing the total to 178 certificates invalidated by the scheme. These actions are part of the NYSC’s efforts to clean up its mobilisation process and ensure that only qualified graduates are enlisted.

Brigadier General Ahmed commended the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Florence Obi, for her integrity in bringing the issue to light. According to him, Professor Obi alerted the NYSC after noticing that unqualified individuals were being mobilized as graduates from her institution.

He said;

“The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar came here to report that she observed some names appeared on the institution’s list and they ought not to have been there.

“She checked the list the school gave us and I told her that their certificates would be invalidated. Previously, a bread seller was mobilized on the graduation list from the same institution. There are bad eggs in many places that generate matriculation numbers and courses for their candidates.”

The NYSC DG assured that the scheme would continue to take stringent measures to maintain the integrity of the service and protect the interests of genuine graduates across the country.
