Two police officers were killed on Sunday night, May 3, after unknown gunmen attacked a convoy carrying the Chief of Staff to the Anambra State Governor along the Amansea-Ufuma route in Akwa, the state capital.
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, confirmed the attack and said that all formations and operational units of the command have been given a 48-hour ultimatum to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the deaths of the officers.
Eyewitnesses reported that the police operatives were fatally wounded while repelling the attack on the convoy along the lonely Ufuma route, under the cover of darkness. The incident underscores growing security concerns along major routes in Anambra State and has raised alarms over the safety of government officials and law enforcement personnel.
CP Orutugu assured the public that the police are mobilizing all available resources to bring the attackers to justice and prevent further incidents targeting government convoys.
