Two persons have been confirmed dead and 12 vehicles burnt in a tanker explosion along the Ota Old Toll Gate in Ogun State.
In a statement on Thursday, the Federal Roads Safety Corps said that the accident occurred early this morning when the tanker carrying Petroleum Motor Spirit was ascending a slope fell, and went into flames.
FRSC Route Commander and Public Education Officer, Florence Okpe, said, “The Federal Roads Safety Corps Ota Unit Command carried out a rescue operation at about 0130 early hours this morning involving a tanker laden with Petroleum Motor Spirit while ascending Ilo Awele slope adjoining Abeokuta-Lagos section of the expressway, fell and went into flames.”
Men of the fire service were said to have been contacted immediately and the area was cordoned to prevent secondary crash.
“A total of 12 vehicles were involved which comprised of 3 Luxurious buses, 4 tricycles, 3 motorcycle, 1 yellow bus and a tanker,” the statement noted.
A total of three persons were said to have been rescued to Ota General Hospital.
