The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Asaba, Delta State on Monday sacked Mr. Ngozi Okolie of the Labour Party as member representing Aniocha/Oshimili Constituency at the House of Representatives.
The minority leader of the House of representatives and member representing Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency in Delta State and Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) candidate for the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu, had lost his re-election bid to the candidate of the Labour Party, Ngozi Okolie.
Elumelu who was seeking re-election to the House of Representatives for the third time was defeated by his Labour Party opponent with 53,879 votes as against 33,466 votes.
The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Kenneth Abaraibe, who announced the result at the INEC collation centre in Asaba, Oshimi South Local Government Area of the state however declared Okolie as the winner of the election having polled the highest votes in the election.
Elumelu had filed his petition, praying the tribunal to disqualify Okolie who was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The tribunal on Monday nullified the election of Okolie as member representing Aniocha/Oshimili Constituency at the House of Representatives.
The tribunal held that Okolie was not duly sponsored by the Labour Party as he was not a member of the party as at May 28, 2022 when the primary purportedly held.
