The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a temporary disruption of electricity supply in several parts of Minna, the Niger State capital, due to scheduled maintenance on a key power transformer.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, TCN said the outage is to enable maintenance work on a 30MVA, 132/33kV power transformer (TR2) at the Minna Transmission Substation.
The statement, signed by TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, disclosed that the maintenance exercise commenced at about 9:30am on Monday and is expected to last until 4:00pm the same day.
According to the company, the planned maintenance is aimed at ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of the transformer supplying electricity to Minna and surrounding areas.
TCN noted that during the maintenance period, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) would be unable to take bulk power supply to several locations within the metropolis.
Areas expected to be affected include Tunga, Shiroro Area, Police Secondary School, Air Force Base, Maikunkele, Tudun Fulani, Beji, Chanchaga, Tungan Goro, Federal Government College (FGC), Bosso Low-Cost, Okada Road, parts of London Street, Kateregi, and Sabon Daga.
The company assured residents that power supply would be restored immediately after the maintenance work is completed.
TCN also expressed regret over the inconvenience the temporary blackout may cause residents and businesses in the affected areas, urging consumers to bear with the company during the exercise.
