Speaking on Wednesday at the State House in Abuja during a meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and members of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, Tinubu said he acted after the bill received broad support in the National Assembly.
He emphasized that rejecting the bill could have sparked unnecessary disputes and unrest. “There was an overwhelming majority in the National Assembly that passed the law. If I had serious questions or reservations, I would have raised them. But I submitted myself to the principle of the rule of law and democracy. I signed, and the rest is history,” he stated.
Tinubu also reflected on the challenges of governance and the nature of politics in a democratic system, noting that his approval of the bill aligned with democratic principles and respect for legislative processes.
