President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved fresh appointments, naming Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF).
Aliyu takes over from Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who stepped down from the role to pursue his governorship ambition in Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a related development, the President also renewed the appointment of Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for a second and final term.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, both appointments take immediate effect.
Before his new role, Professor Aliyu served as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education. He is regarded as an experienced academic and administrator, with a strong background in research, education, and institutional leadership. His appointment is seen as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s petroleum sector and boost human capital development within the industry.
The President has tasked him with repositioning the PTDF to drive innovation, enhance capacity building, and provide strategic support for the oil and gas sector in line with national priorities.
Meanwhile, the renewal of Abdulaziz’s tenure follows a performance review of his leadership at TCN. Under his watch, the company has recorded improvements in grid stability, expanded transmission capacity, and advanced system modernisation efforts.
With over 30 years of experience in the power sector, Abdulaziz has also contributed to regional electricity cooperation through his role in the West African Power Pool (WAPP).
President Tinubu urged both appointees to carry out their duties with diligence, integrity, and a strong commitment to national service, in line with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
