Nigerians on X (formerly Twitter) have condemned in strongest terms, the killing of scores of citizens celebrating the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (Maulid Nabiyy) in Tundun Biri community in the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State by a military drone.
Tweeps – some of whom are supporters of President Bola Tinubu – also lambasted former President Muhammadu Buhari, saying his eight-year administration gave birth to the incessant bombing of communities and killing of civilians by the Nigerian Army and other security agents.
SaharaReporters reported on Monday that the military on Sunday killed scores of Muslims celebrating the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (Maulid Nabiyy) in the state.
However, despite Nigerians raging in anger that the bombing of communities and killing of civilians by security agents in the country started under Buhari’s administration, the ex-President’s former aide, Bashir Ahmad, on Monday strongly condemned the Kaduna incident.
“Haba! You can’t kill 126 innocent souls—a hundred and twenty-six civilians, and just call it a mistake. I can’t even remember a time when the troops killed such a number of terrorists anywhere in this country at once.
“@HQNigerianArmy Nigerians are waiting to hear from you how this ‘mistake’ will be corrected and what measures you’d put in place to prevent a recurrence,” Ahmad wrote on his X handle.
Reacting to Ahmad’s comment, another X user, @Elkrosmediahub wrote, “Look at this guy trying to evolve into an activist right before our eyes, just because he’s no longer in government.
“Fourteen whole times this same mis-fire happened under the Buhari led administration, and I honestly can’t point out a single tweet from you condemning it.”
Another X user who condemned the Kaduna killing, @chymaker said, “Since core Batists, corners and voluntary slaves have decided to push the narratives that @MBuhari was a colossal failure, Buharists/Sai Babas have also decided to paint @officialABAT as worst than Buhari.
“I love to see the fight gaining momentum.”
Also, @Waspapping_ said, “Buharists who defended his disregard for northern lives amid daily killings & kidnappings have now found their voice. Even scholars that were silent for 8 years under Buhari’s watch now speak up. It’s hypocritical, but having them on the side of the masses is a positive shift.”
For @emmaikumeh, “Buhari is the most useless president we have ever had. Took us 50 years backwards.”
@Waspapping_ said, “Whether we are ready to admit it or not, Wallahi, this lack of regard for Northern and Muslim lives under this Bola Tinubu administration started with former President Buhari.
“He paved the way for all the disrespect we are seeing today. He’s the biggest mistake to happen to us.”
Another X user, @Waspapping_ said, “As a Northerner, there is no justification to support or defend President Buhari’s name after what he did to Northern Nigeria.
“Everything we are witnessing under this administration occurred under President Buhari, and not once did he show regard for the victims.”
Also, @jibreelKhalil said, “Buhari was the president when a group of defenseless people were slaughtered in jos on their way back from Maulid, to the day he bowed out of office, no legal action was taken against those morally wounded perverts.
“You have finally realized the use of your pen and recollect your sense of humanity and empathy because Buhari is longer the serving president. Why are we this shameless?”
