Three-Storey Building Collapses In Abuja As Rescue Workers Pull Out 27-Year-Old Man

In a rescue operation, a 27-year-old man, Aliyu Salisu, was pulled alive from the rubble of a three-storey building that collapsed in Abuja’s Lifecamp area on Saturday evening.

The victim, a citizen of Niger Republic, was trapped under the debris for nearly 10 hours before being rescued in the early hours of Sunday.
Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command in a statement on Sunday, said, “The rescue teams worked tirelessly to extricate Aliyu Salisu from the rubble, and their efforts paid off at about 4am on Sunday.”

According to Adeh, the rescue operation began shortly after a distress call was received around 6:15pm on Saturday. A multi-agency team, led by the Divisional Police Officer of Lifecamp, promptly responded to the scene, cordoning off the area and initiating emergency response operations.

“We commend the swift response of the various agencies and volunteers who worked together to rescue Aliyu,” said FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, who supervised the rescue operations.

Aliyu is currently receiving medical attention at Cedar Crest Hospital, Gudu, and is reportedly responding well to treatment. According to the statement the police commissioner has urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report emergencies or suspicious activities.

“We urge residents to be proactive in reporting emergencies,” Adewale said. “Our control room lines are active round-the-clock, and we are committed to responding swiftly to distress calls.”
