Three Senators Officially Dump PDP For APC

Three Senators on Wednesday notified the Senate leadership of their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmakers communicated their decision in separate letters read by Senate President Ahmad Lawan during the plenary on Wednesday.

The Senators are the Minority Whip, Sahabi Ya’u (Zamfara North), Lawal Anka (Zamfara West), and Peter Nwaoboshi (Delta North).

However, they all blamed their resignation on internal crisis, tyranny, and leadership failure within the PDP.

The defection letter by the Deputy Minority Whip, Senator Sahabi Ya’u (Zamfara West) reads: “I hereby inform Your Excellency and my Distinguished Colleagues of my decision to move from the Peoples’ Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress Party.”

“The decision is necessitated by the endemic crisis that engulfed the Zamfara State Chapter of the PDP, which led the national body to dissolve the State Exco of the party.

“This has negatively impacted effective representation of my constituents. Being a representative of my people, and having consulted widely with them, I decided to defect from the crises ridden party to a more formidable and peaceful party, the APC.”

Lawan congratulated and welcomed the defecting Senators to the ruling party.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that governors elected on the platform of the party are defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) due to intimidation and fear of prosecution.

The PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus made the submission on Tuesday while reacting to the official defection of Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle to APC.

It will be recalled that Matawalle officially joined the APC during a ceremony in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital on Tuesday, and many APC Governors, lawmakers, SGF Boss Mustapha, as well as other party chieftains were on hand to welcome him.

Secondus slammed the APC-led federal government, stating that despite the security and economic challenges plaguing the country, the Buhari administration is more focused on how to poach members from opposition parties.

The PDP national chairman spoke at a press briefing held at its National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, after a meeting of PDP leaders.
