Borno South Senator, Ali Ndume, has raised alarms over evolving terrorist tactics in Nigeria, revealing that insurgents and bandits are now employing commercial tricycles, known locally as Keke Napep, to transport explosive devices to targets.
Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Ndume explained that these criminal groups are becoming increasingly organized and dangerous, relying heavily on local informants and unconventional delivery methods.
“They operate on a hit-and-run basis,” Ndume said. “They gather intelligence, coordinate movements within communities, and sometimes even get information from residents. Some citizens unknowingly act as informants.”
The senator emphasized that recent attacks have seen explosives discreetly delivered via Keke Napep, allowing perpetrators to strike and vanish quickly.
“You can imagine, even the bomb that exploded recently was delivered by a Keke Napep. They package it and hand it over to people operating these tricycles to drop at specific locations,” he revealed.
Ndume also highlighted the audacity of terrorists and bandits, noting that some have begun recording and sharing their violent acts on social media platforms like TikTok.
He attributed the worsening security situation to insufficient intelligence gathering and urged authorities to enhance surveillance and community information networks to counter these increasingly bold attacks.
