Suspected fighters linked to Boko Haram have destroyed a key bridge in Niger State, cutting off several communities and disrupting vital economic activities, TRUETELLS Nigeria reports.
According to local sources, the attack happened on Sunday evening along the Wawa–Luma–Guffanti road, a critical route used by traders and residents in the area.
The road passes through the Kainji Lake National Park, where armed groups including Boko Haram and Ansaru factions are believed to maintain hideouts.
Residents said the timing of the explosion suggests a deliberate attempt to cripple local commerce, as it occurred just a day before the busy Babanna market.
“It happened right before Babanna market day,” a resident of Wawa told TRUETELLS Nigeria, expressing concern over the economic impact.
A commercial driver, Ahmed Yusuf, who was transporting traders on Monday morning, confirmed that the road has been completely cut off.
“The bridge is destroyed. Vehicles cannot pass at all,” he said, noting that only motorcycles are struggling to navigate through the damaged section.
A New Bussa resident, Abu Fudail, also described the attack as a calculated move to worsen hardship in the area. He said nearly 90 percent of markets in the region depend on the affected road.
The route is a major link connecting communities to Kebbi State, Kontagora, and extends toward the Benin Republic.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to release an official statement. More details are expected.
