A group of unknown gunmen have reportedly kidnapped an officer of the Nigeria Police Force in Kwara State.
Reports reaching AN24.net on Thursday confirmed that the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Abdulmumini Yusuf, who is attached to the Area Command in Ilorin, was whisked away to an unknown location by the assailants.
Confirming the embarrassing situation, the State Police Commissioner, CP Paul Odama, told newsmen in Ilorin today that the personnel was kidnapped on Tuesday night while on his way home in the Ogidi area of the state capital.
“Yes, it’s true, but we are still on it,” Odama told newsmen in Ilorin. Also confirming the incident, the command’s spokesman, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, said an investigation is ongoing to secure the release of the officer.
Ayayi said the motive of the abduction was still sketchy.
“The incident, as serious as it is, has not diminished the resolve of the command to protect the lives and property of the citizens,” the PPRO said.
A resident of the Ogidi community, Jamiu Abdulganiy also told PM News that the abduction of the officer has caused tension in the community as residents wonder why the officer could be kidnapped.
