The operations of Brila FM in Port Harcourt and Abuja have been temporarily suspended following revelations of a massive fraud scheme that has rocked Nigeria’s foremost sports radio network.

Akakan issued invoices bearing “Bricast Communications” details to unsuspecting advertisers and sponsors of Brila FM programs. Payments for these advertisements were funneled into the Bricast account, depriving Brila FM of significant revenue.

Further allegations include Engr. Akakan forging Brila FM broadcast certificates and using them to solicit payments from clients, including churches and businesses. It is estimated that over ₦200 million was misappropriated through this scheme.
Dr. Larry Izamoje, Chairman of Brila FM, authorized the suspension of operations in Port Harcourt and Abuja after years of dwindling revenue linked to the fraudulent activities. The financial strain on the branches reportedly became unsustainable, affecting their ability to meet operational needs. “The cartel’s actions left a devastating impact on the company, with near-zero returns becoming the norm,” a source disclosed.
Following Engr. Akakan’s arrest, the Lagos Magistrate Court granted police a warrant for his remand, allowing for comprehensive investigations. In custody, Engr. Akakan reportedly made confessional statements to both the police and Brila FM, pleading for leniency.
