Supremacy between the Eiye cult group and the Aye cult group has left one person dead in the wee hours of the night at Soulmate Hotel, Fagba, Lagos on Thursday, September 24th.
Truetells Nigeria learnt that the Aye cult group attacked the Eiye cult group at Osho Street, Fagba Iju area, a suburb of Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.
Investigators revealed that the Aye group at about 8 pm on Thursday the 24th of September 2020 attacked the Eiye group where one member of the Eiye cult group identified as Segun Ogumodede aka Badoo was shot dead in front of the hotel.
According to an eye witness who spoke to our correspondent; the police at Oko Oba division and the divisional police officer in charge of the station, Chief Superintendent of Police, Sylva Chinedu – with the anti-robbery and anti cultism team to the scene – were contacted.
Upon the arrival of the police, the cultists fled the scene leaving behind their dead colleague who was later taken away by the police with no arrests made.
One of the residents who spoke with our reporter on the condition of anonymity said the area had been peaceful until Soulmate hotel was built about a year ago and that ever since the area has not been peaceful; as both cultists, yahoo boys, and Indian hemp smokers have taken over the place making the hotel their haven.
“We have been living in this area in peace for a very long time now before this hotel was built about a year ago and since then we have been living in fear as we cannot go out early in the morning as we used to because the bad boys who are always in the hotel will attack and dispose you of your valuables.
“We have also complained to the owner yet he did not do anything about it we are begging the government to please come to our aid, things are really getting out of hand”.
The Baale of Orile Egbiri, Samuel Iyanla Oye Adegboyega, corroborated the story of the anonymous source, stating that he had been the Baale of Orile Egbiri for the past 5 years and that the community had been peaceful until the construction of the Soulmate hotel that became a hideout for cultists and hemp users.
He also added that he had tendered some written documents to the authorities without any result.
Adegboyega further stated that the former divisional police officer DPO in charge of Oko Oba in the company of the Area ‘G’ police commander with other stakeholders have once visited the place to access the situation yet, there has been no positive response from the police to address the problem.
Another Chief in the community identified as Ajani Olutade said the Community Development Association (CDA) has written several letters to the hotelier, inviting him to a meeting but has always ignored their letter of invitation.
“We have written series of letters of invitation to him and he has always ignored the letters and the police we look up to are not forthcoming we do hope that the new DPO will take necessary measures to put an end to all these things”.
However, the hotel Director, Victor Adeyemo, denied all the allegations saying that what happened has nothing to do with his hotel and that they were mere allegations adding that the cultists fought on a street before his hotel before one of them was shot dead.
