Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim has emerged as a surprise candidate to become the next permanent Manchester United manager, according to reports.
However, to acquire Amorim’s services, Manchester United would need to trigger his 30 million euro release clause, as the 36-year-old’s contract runs until 2024.
Amorim hung up his boots back in 2017 at the age of 32 and stepped into coaching after taking charge of the Portuguese third division team Casa Pia for the 2018/19 campaign.
Then, he moved to Braga, where stood out for his work before Sporting triggered his 10 million euro release clause.
Amorim went on to win one Primeira Liga, a Taca da Liga and a Supertaca Candido de Oliveira last season before leading Sporting to the Champions League’s last 16, where they will face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
