The Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University (KWASU), Prof. Mustapha Akanbi, has died at the age of 51.
This was confirmed in a statement released by, Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to the state governor on Sunday.
SaharaReporters gathered that Akanbi died after a protracted ailment that made him seek medical treatment abroad a few months ago.
His burial rites will be held in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital on Monday, in accordance with Islamic law.
Akanbi was born into the family of the late Hon. Justice Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi and the late Hajia Munfaatu Aduke Akanbi.
He was from Awodi, Gambari Quarters, Ilorin East in Kwara State.
He attended various primary and secondary schools across the country in Kano, Kano State; Port Harcourt, Rivers State; Ibadan, Oyo State and Okigwe in Imo State. He graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife with a Bachelor’s degree in law.
Akanbi attended the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island Lagos, where he earned a second-class upper division. He was called to the bar in 1995.
He left behind a wife and children.
