Amid-air collision between two small planes performing at an air show in southern Portugal resulted in the death of a Spanish pilot.
The planes, part of the YAK STARS aerobatic patrol, crashed above the Beja air base, about 180 km south of Lisbon, on Sunday.
One plane exploded into flames, killing the pilot, Mail Online reports.
The Portuguese Air Force (PAF), which organized the show, cancelled the Beja AirShow, Portugal’s largest air festival, following the accident.
A spectator’s video showed the planes colliding and one crashing to the ground.
Emergency services responded, and the air force confirmed the death of the Spanish pilot and injury of another pilot.
The YAK STARS team consists of Portuguese and Spanish pilots and is considered the largest civilian aerobatic team in southern Europe.
