Mustapha Bello, a Nigerian referee, was killed by thunder while performing his job.
Bello was reportedly struck by lightning while refereeing a friendly game in Niger State.
On Wednesday, the incident took place at a community field used by a primary and secondary school in Madalla, Niger State.
How the Nigerian referee passed away
According to a Daily Post article, Bello served as the match’s referee between pupils from Suleja and Madalla.
The fatal event, according to one Muhammed Musa, happened during halftime.
it began to rain as the kids played, and the players and their supporters sought shelter in the classrooms.
Bello, together with his assistants, returned to the field of play and motioned for the players to join them.
The thunder struck the officials while they were on the field. Bello was pronounced dead at the hospital after they were taken there urgently.
In Suleja town, the late Bello was buried on the same day in accordance with his religion.
