Armed policemen have fired teargas canisters at the peaceful protesters who gathered in Abuja for the fifth day of the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests.
The protesters, gathered to express their frustration and anger over the country’s persistent hardship, were met with teargas canisters, causing chaos in the area.
Bystanders, including traders and passersby, were also affected and forced to flee. The crackdown on protesters intensified on Monday, resulting in the arrest of Adaramoye Michael Lenin, National Coordinator of the Youth Rights Campaign, by the Department of State Services (DSS).
A SaharaReporters correspondent observed a significant military presence at key locations in the city centre, leading to heightened tension and apprehension among residents in the nation’s capital.
The heavy deployment of military personnel has created a sense of unease, adding to the already charged atmosphere.
