The wife of the Governor of Lagos State Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has unveiled a NoRapeZone stand in Surulere, Lagos in support of the #MenAgainstRape Campaign in Lagos.
Speaking after the march which was organised by partnership for Justice in collaboration with Mirabel Centre and network of men against rape, the wife of the Governor said that Surulere has become the first local government in Lagos to take part in the MenAgainstRape campaign while commending the men for their efforts.
“ We are taking this domestic violence and Rape issues serious in Lagos because real men don’t rape.
We need to walk the talk and do the do, all we need is action. Here we can see that this gathering is made of men from different works of life and respectable people in the society and it gladdens my heart to see that men are taking the walk.
In other states we see women coming out but Lagos is different as we see more men taking the responsibility to standout against rape, we still have a lot of work to do so help us God”. She said
Also speaking the leader of council Itire-Ikate LCDA, Hon. Subair Adams, said that men have to defend their integrity because every man has a woman either mother, sister or daughter.
“ We are shocked about the recent event of rape seen in the country and the issues have become rampant and we men have to face the challenge to defend the integrity of men.
Every man should know that you have Women in their lives either as mothers, sisters and daughters so it’s a collective effort and it’s a battle to finish for all rapists out there”. He said
The founder Mirabel Centre, Itoro Eze Anaba said that the essence of the walk is to sensitize the people to report rape cases.
“Sexual abuse has gone beyond epidemic and now it has become a pandemic as far as the society and globally, this walk is aimed to sensitize and make people understand the importance of speaking out and report abusers” He said.
