The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday expressed worries over the insecurity in Imo State in the South-East and Kogi State in North-Central regions of Nigeria ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the states.Â
The National Commissioner of the electoral body, Mallam Mohammed Kudu Haruna, while expressing the commission’s concerns over the security situation in the identified states, highlighted the need for improved security measures by the government.
The INEC Commissioner disclosed the commission’s worries over current security situation in the states on Wednesday during a media executives meeting for the 2023 governorship election in Owerri, Imo State capital.
Haruna further identified Bayelsa as one of the states that needed improved security measures for a peaceful and successful electoral process.Â
The electoral umpire therefore appealed to politicians, their political parties and electorates to conduct themselves in a manner that will allow for peace to prevail during and after the election in order to enable voters to exercise their franchise.
