There was tension on Saturday morning in Maiduguri, Borno State, after massive explosion rocked a 1000 Housing Estate.
It was gathered that the explosion may have be triggered by fighters of the now-depleted Boko Haram terrorists group.
Daily Trust reports that a rocket launcher also landed at Gomari Airport, a community about four kilometres from the airport located in Maiduguri.
According to a video, some residents were seen discussing the incident in groups, while a large crowd were also spotted in one of the houses affected by the explosion.
Although a resident said no life was lost, a military source told the publication that troops of 33 artillery, Njimtelo, opened fire when they sighted insurgents on the outskirts of Maiduguri.
The insurgents were said to have also engaged troops in a gun battle.
In related news, fighters of the dreaded Boko Haram terrorists on Friday launched an attack on Malam Fatori, a border town and headquarters of the Abadam LGA of Borno State.
Recall that Governor Babagana Zulum had stated that his administration was working to return displaced persons to Malam Fatori by December 31 despite the community being one of two local government areas without human activities.
According to PUNCH, the insurgents engaged the army formation in Malam-Fatori in the attacks that started on Friday evening.
Recall that over 500 mobile police personnel were reportedly deployed to clear the town in preparation for the return of 1,000 refugees from the Niger republic.
This is besides the army base stationed in the deserted town and other security agents like NSCDC, DSS and the civilian JTF that were posted there to help in securing the town for the safe return of the refugees
