The city of ABA in Abia State Southeast Nigeria has been of constant neglect from all the previous government that has led the state since its creation in 1991.
ABA is one of the major commercial city in Nigeria, Â after the election of the Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, he promised to look in the infrastructural decay in Aba.
For a first time visitor, Aba cuts a pitiable sight. Put mildly, it is an urban jungle.
Always revered for its enterprise, Enyimba city, as it is fondly called, houses one of Africa’s largest commercial enclaves called Ariaria market. Its artisans have been celebrated as a unique class of innovators attracting billions of Naira in investment.
Ripples Nigeria took a tour of the city and returns with sordid tales of the unexpected. Once vibrant, the city is now a shadow of its old self.
With a layout that looks every inch the work of an amateur draughtsman, Aba has become decrepit, overtaken by mal-administration. The decay literarily jumps at you with a choking stench.
We avail you 40 (forty) pictures of the rot that Aba has become, and hope that the administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu would take strategic steps to return the city to glory.
