Top 10 List of the Cheapest Private Universities In Nigeria and Their Fees
Please note, that this list is based on current findings as at the time of writing this post. We’ll update this post as there are changes in tuition fees of each of the schools listed.
1. Al-Hikmah University Ilorin
This is an Islamic university founded by an Islamic foundation in 2005. Presently, it operates 5 faculties within the two campuses in Kwara state.
Its ranked 30th in the country. Its session fee of N139,500 makes it first of the cheapest private universities in Nigeria.
2. Oduduwa University, Ile Ife
This cheap university which was named after the forefather of Yoruba got its license in 2009.
It operates 4 colleges namely College of management and social sciences, natural and applied sciences, environmental design, engineering and technology.
The school which started operations in 2009 is located along Ife Ibadan Express road. The total semester fee range between N185,000 to N210,000.
This means per session, it cost N370, 000 to N420,000 and as such the 2nd of the cheapest private universities in Nigeria.
It is rated 104thin the country and also, it hasn’t made it to our list of top twenty private universities in Nigeria.
3. Ajayi Crowther University
This cheap Nigerian private university which was named after the first African bishop, late Samuel Ajayi Crowther gives 10% discount to Anglican students, children of their staffs and indigenes of Oyo community that are freshers.
It began operation in 2005 and since then it has being educating thousands  because the Students in the religious studies department pay the tuition fee of N162,000 while others pay N428,400
It is rated 79th in the country.
4. Wellspring University
This which is located in Benin, Edo State was founded in 2009 and it offers various courses at a highly affordable rate. It is ranked 134th in the country
Their tuition fee is N213, 750 thereby making it the 4th of the cheapest private universities in Nigeria.
5. Caritas University
This is a Catholic university in Enugu state. Although it was licensed in 2004, it started operations with 6 faculties in 2005. It is rated 110th in the country.
Although the tuition fee varies with faculties, the faculty with the least tuition fee pays      N248,000. Hence, it can be counted as one of the cheapest private universities in Nigeria.
6. Obong University, Obong Ntak
Obong University is located in Akwa Ibom  and it was established in 1997 first as African college of Management after which it metamorphosed to university of Africa and later to Obong University in 2007.
It is included in this list of cheapest private universities in Nigeria because its tuition fee is as low as N250, 000. It is rated 149th in the country.
7. Paul University Awka
This is situated in Awka, Anambra State and it was established in 2009.The university has 3 faculties which offer various courses
Its tuition fee of N300,000 makes it one of the cheapest private universities in Nigeria. It is rated 105th in the country.
8. Fountain University Osogbo
For Muslim brothers and sisters, this is the second Islamic university in this list. The school still operates 2 colleges although it has a goal of offering more courses.
The prayer meeting for Muslim elites turned university received its license in 2007 and its tuition fee is N341,500 thereby making it one of the cheapest private universities in Nigeria. This school is ranked 108th in the country.the
9. Veritas University
This is another catholic university situated in Abuja. It got its license in 2007 but it started admitting students in 2008 with the aim of conserving quality education and Catholic heritage.
This catholic university is one of the cheapest private universities in Nigeria as its tuition fee is N450, 000. It offers over 23 undergraduate courses and it is ranked 67th in the country.

10. Rhema University
This university is located in Abia State and it was established by Living Word ministries international. It got its license in 2009 and it offers 10 undergraduate programmes.
Rhema’s tuition fee which starts from N452, 000 makes it one of the cheapest private universities in Nigeria. It is rated 129th in the country.

Nigerian Turkish Nile University is the most expensive Private University in Nigeria.
The SURAT group known as SURAT Nigeria Ltd came from Turkey to establish the university in 2009. Although they started with the establishment of secondary schools in 1998, they were encouraged to establish a tertiary institution.
It has faculty of engineering, Natural and Applied science, arts and social sciences, management, law and college of health sciences.
Although it is rated 58th in the country, I must say: The best university in Nigeria must stand very well to compete with this school.
English department is with the least tuition fee of N1.7 million while medicine and surgery has a tuition fee of N5,750,000. Please note that the above fee does not cover accommodation.
One Cool Private University In Nigeria Without Jamb
Let no one lie to you…JAMB is a statutory requirement for admission into Nigerian universities.
Private universities can only reduce their cut off mark to a minimum of 140 or even lower. But there must be evidence that you sat for the examination.
The Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) is a means of not going through JAMB and it is well recognized by some universities. You don’t have to sit for or pass JAMB before you can use IJMB
