Nigerian track and field athlete, Oluwatobiloba Ayomide, popularly known as Tobi Amusan has earned herself a national honour after breaking landmark records while representing her country in recent athletic events.
On Thursday, September 15, 2022, President Muhammadu Buhari made Amusan one of the recipients of Nigeria’s National Honor after conferring on her the award of the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
Truetells Nigeria understands that the 25-year-old athlete was conferred with the award when President received the Nigerian contingent to the recently concluded 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, the United Kingdom.
The event was witnessed by dignitaries this afternoon at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Aside from Amosun, Nigerian weightlifter, Adijat Olarinoye and other medalists at the 2022 Commonwealth and World Athletics were also conferred with various National Honors at the event.
Amusan’s most recent record was when she won the women’s 100 meters hurdles at this year’s Diamond League in Zurich.
The Amazon clinched the trophy on Thursday, September 8, 2022, after she got to the finish line in 12.29 seconds to successfully defend her Diamond League title.
In the previous year, Amusan won the Diamond League trophy in 12.42 seconds while she also set an African record in recent participation.
