President Muhammadu Buhari is yet to react to the abduction of thirty-one persons in Saturday’s attack at a train Station in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State.
Naija News reports that the gunmen suspected to be killer herdsmen were armed with AK 47 rifles and kidnapped the victims in broad daylight over the weekend.
In a statement on Monday, the state Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, said thirty-one passengers were abducted after six persons were rescued.
Confirming the development, Executive Director of Esan Youth for Good Governance and Social Justice, Benson Odia, said the gunmen made their demands known which was absurd and ridiculous.
The Edo state Command’s spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwanbuzor, however, said he is not aware of the demand by the kidnappers.
However, as of the time of filing this report, the President has failed to issue a statement on the said incident.
Recall that in March 2022, scores of persons were kidnapped in Katari, in Kaduna state by terrorists who ambushed the train. Eight persons were killed on the spot while a few sustained injuries.
The kidnapped persons were released in batches, the last batch was freed in October, 7 months after their abduction.
