The Borno police commissioner Yusuf Lawal, on Friday, reported that a deadly attack involving an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) occurred during a protest against bad governance in Maiduguri, resulting in one fatality and 11 injuries.
The incident took place at Deribe Junction near Federal Government Girls’ College Monguno Annex in the Bulumkutu area.
According to Lawal, the injured victims received medical attention at the State Specialist Hospital Maiduguri, while the deceased was taken for autopsy.
The police promptly responded by deploying the Explosive Ordnance Device team from Base 13, who secured the area around a nearby filling station and rendered it safe.
Lawal provided this situation report to the News Agency of Nigeria.
“In a separate incident, a case of culpable homicide was reported in Biu local government area,” Lawal said.
The police commissioner also reported a domestic violence incident in which a man, Ibrahim Bulama, allegedly struck his wife, Maryam Ibrahim, on the head with a stick during a dispute.
The victim, according to the police commissioner, was rushed to the General Hospital Biu for treatment but sadly succumbed to her injuries on Thursday.
The suspect, Ibrahim Bulama, was apprehended, and a stick was recovered as evidence.
The police chief said an investigation is ongoing into the incident.
Lawal noted that this incident, combined with others, has brought the total number of fatalities in the state to 17 within the past 48 hours, with several others injured.
“The Borno command assures the citizens that investigations are ongoing and that normality has been restored,” he said
