The All Progressives Congress Ward executives for Ketembere in the Shelleng Local Government Area of Adamawa State have suspended Senator Ahmed Barata, the Director General of campaign council of the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the state, Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed (Binani).
Barata’s suspension was announced on Friday by the ward executive members.
According to the ward executives, Barata was suspended over alleged anti-party activities and withholding of relief food items sent to party faithful by Binani before the elections.
Barata’s suspension was contained in a letter addressed to him and dated March 30, 2023 with the title, ‘Suspension from being a member of All Progressives Congress’, and signed by Iliyasu Mohammed and 26 others.
According to a copy of the letter made available to newsmen in Yola, Adamawa State capital, the APC ward executives mentioned various infractions allegedly committed by Barata including his refusal to distribute food items donated by Binani prior to the governorship election which was held on March 18.
The letter stated that the resolution to suspend Barata was taken during the ward executive meeting on Monday.
The letter read, “With due regards to all relevant sections of article 21 of the All Progressives Congress constitution, 2022 as amended which as well empowers the ward executive committee to take disciplinary measures against any erring member irrespective of his or her status, we, the exco members of this ward, therefore, have resolved in our March 27, 2023 meeting to suspend you (Barata) on the following grounds;
“Anti-party activities during the March 18 governorship and House of Assembly elections; Impersonation of the party by appointment of agents in same elections as mentioned above; Being a principal actor in causing crisis at the polling unit between agent sent by the party and those you sent during the 18 March governorship and House of Assembly elections; and withhold of relief food items sent to party faithful before election by the APC governorship candidate, Distinguished Senator Aisha Ahmed Binani.”
