Sixteen members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have been suspended for allegedly threatening to impeach the Speaker of the House, Bilyaminu Moriki.
There was tension at the complex of the Zamfara State House of Assembly last Thursday as 18 out of the 24 lawmakers moved to impeach the Speaker.
Heavily armed security operatives took over the entrance gate of the complex in Gusau to prevent chaos.
A member of the House told newsmen that plans had been concluded to impeach the Speaker over his long absence in the state amidst the resurgence of activities of bandits.
According to Channels Television, the House which described the legislative sitting by eighteen members last Thursday as illegal, accused the members of breaking into the offices of the clerk of the House and Sergeant at Arms and destroying things at the Assembly Complex.
They called on residents of the state to disregard the news making the round that the Speaker had been suspended.
Meanwhile, the lawmakers also accused some top politicians outside the state of sponsoring the lawmakers to disrupt the government of Governor Dauda Lawal in the state.
