Barely two months to the 64th annual Grammy Awards ceremony, a list of nominees for the most coveted entertainment individual and group awards has been released.
Truetells Nigeria reports that Record Academy on Tuesday evening confirmed the names of nominees for the 2022 Grammy Awards which will take place in Los Angeles on Monday, January 31.
Nigerian superstars, Wizkid and Burna Boy also got nominated in different categories for the 2022 Grammys.
Nigerian singer, Ayo Balogun, better known as Wizkid got nominated in two categories for the 2022 Grammy Awards.
Naija News understands that Wizkid’s fourth album, ‘Made in Lagos’ which was released in 2020 has continued to dominate music charts in the country and abroad. Also, his hit song, Essence has been on the lips of music lovers as it also made its way to the playlist of former US President Barack Obama.
In the list of nominees announced on Tuesday, Wizkid’s ‘Made in Lagos’ album was nominated in the Best Global Music Award category, while Essence featuring Tems makes the list of nominees for the Best Global Music Performance category.
Wizkid would be hoping to clinch the award and follow the footstep of popular Nigerian singer, Burna Boy who won the award for Best Global Music Album Award this year, Naija News reports.
Recall that Wizkid had won an award for his part in the video for Beyonce’s Brown-Skinned girl at the 2021 ceremony.
Another proud Nigerian singer, Damini Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy got a nomination for the 2022 Grammys.
Burna Boy, a two-time nominee and winner was nominated alongside, Wizkid, Femi Kuti, and, Made Kuti.
The Recording Academy revealed the nominations for the 2022 Grammy Awards in a live stream on Tuesday.
It could be recalled that Burna Boy won the Best Global Music Album category for his album, Twice As Tall.
Foreign artists, the likes of Justin Bieber, Doja Cat and H.E.R. had eight nominations each, and Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo are close behind with seven.
While 18-year-old Rodrigo got nominated in four big categories: ‘record of the year, Album of the year, song of the year and best new artist for her viral hit “Drivers License”
Lil Nas X also got away with five nominations alongside Brandi Carlile, Bruno Mars and Anderson.
