1. FG Plans To Adopt Measures To Curb Attack On Schools By Bandits
In an effort to curb the incessant attack on schools in the rural areas in the country, the Federal Government is planning to adopt some specific measures as a means of checkmating bandits and other criminal elements from carrying out their dastardly acts.
Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Andrew David Adejo disclosed this today, Monday at the 81st Joint Consultative Committee on Education, holding in Yola, the Adamawa state capital.
He said some of the measures will include the abolition of boarding schools in rural areas for now, creating a special security unit for schools, introduction of security studies into the curriculum of our institutions.
According to him, other measures will be the drilling of students and teachers on emergency measures, construction of perimeter walls around schools and the installation of CCTV/alarm system in our schools.
2. Wike Is Being Instigated Against PDP, Atiku – Lamido
A former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has said Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, was being instigated by some people against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
This was just as the PDP chieftain added that the crisis rocking the party would be handled with wisdom, saying it was normal to have internal squabbles in politics.
Lamido, a former foreign affairs minister during the former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration however disclosed that Governor Wike is a committed and responsible man but exhibits signs of youthful exuberance.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, anchored in Kano, Alhaji Lamido stated that the victory of the PDP in Osun State governorship election was a good sign for the party.
3. Rauf Olaniyan Impeached As Oyo State Deputy Governor
The members of the Oyo State House of Assembly have impeached Engineer Rauf Aderemi Olaniyan as the State Deputy Governor.
Truetells Nigeria understands the lawmakers impeached Olaniyan on Monday around 11.30 am during the house plenary, noting that the impeachment takes immediate effect.
This follows the reading and adoption of the recommendations of a report of the seven-man panel set up by the State Chief Judge, Munta Abimbola to investigate allegations levelled against the deputy governor.
The report was read on the floor by the Majority Leader of the House, Sanjo Adedoyin and Olaniyan was found guilty of all the charges against him.
4. Atiku Speaks On Being Sick
The Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar has reacted to a video showing him limping.
Atiku in a statement released through his media aide, Paul Ibe, said he is in good and robust health.
He questioned the objective of the people behind the viral video.
The statement released by the former vice president reads, “Our attention has been drawn to a report and a video in a section of the media purporting to be of an “ailing” Atiku Abubakar being helped strapped to his car seatbelt by an aide.
Nothing can be further from the truth. For the records, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is in robust good health.
5. One Million Boys: IGP Orders Lagos CP To Investigate Portable Over Cult Group Alliance
The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has ordered the investigation of controversial singer, Portable over his claims of forming ‘One million boys’ and ‘Ajah boy’.
Truetells Nigeria understands that the fast-rising singer [Habeeb Okikiola] claimed in a viral video that he founded the deadly cult group terrorizing Lagos and Ogun states residents.
Portable’s comment has since generated reactions on social media as netizens demand that the singer should be cautioned.
“Open your ears and hear me, Have you heard about Ajah Boys, One Million Boys, I’m their founder. Go and ask Sammy larry,” Portable said in the viral video shared earlier.
Reacting, Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi announced on Monday evening that IGP Baba has ordered an investigation of the singer.
Adejobi said the investigation was necessary as part of the force effort to fish out pillars and sponsors of cult groups in the country.
6. 2023: After Emefiele Saga, INEC Still Considering If It Will Keep Sensitive Election Materials With CBN
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to take a final decision on the probability or not of keeping sensitive election materials for the 2023 polls with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as it usually does.
This was made known by the INEC commissioner for information and voter education, Festus Okoye.
It will be recalled that the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu had in the wake of the declared interest of the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele in the 2023 presidential race before eventually stepping down, said the electoral body may have to consider alternative options in storing sensitive materials so as not to compromise the process.
However, Okoye said due to the logistics involved in conducting a general election and the volume of materials that have to be moved, INEC is actively weighing its options.
He added during a Sunrise Daily interview session with Channels TV that a final decision on the matter is yet to be taken as the commission is yet to sit down with the CBN to review plans for the 2023 elections.
Okoye disclosed that for the logistics involved in the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) moved the materials to the airport and they were dispatched straight to INEC offices.
He stressed this was possible because they were stand-alone elections with a limited number of voters and the strategy may not work during the 2023 general elections where many states and Abuja will be involved simultaneously.
7. Oyo Assembly Approves Bayo Lawal As New Deputy Governor After Impeaching Rauf Olaniyan
The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved the nomination of Adebayo Lawal as the new Deputy Governor of the state.
This follows the impeachment of Engineer Rauf Olaniyan on Monday by the lawmakers.

8. Osun: Reason APC Has Not Reacted To PDP, Adeleke’s Victory – Report
It has been more than 24 hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party winner of the Osun gubernatorial election and the All Progressives Congress, APC is yet to congratulate them.
The PDP flagbearer defeated the sitting governor Gboyega Oyetola in a keenly contested battle.
The former Senator won in 17 of the 30 local government areas in the poll conducted in 3,763 units. Adeleke received 403,371 votes while Oyetola got 375,027.
Oyetola spoke on Sunday but refused to congratulate his challenger.
However, DAILY POST has reported that the APC is yet to issue a congratulatory message because they do not want to preempt the incumbent governor.
The publication said a source told their correspondent that the ruling party is studying the outcome of the election.
9. Zamfara Govt Suspends Emir Over Chieftaincy Title To Notorious Bandit Terrorist
Zamfara State government led by Governor Bello Matawalle has suspended the Emir of Birnin ‘Yandoto, Alhaji Aliyu Marafa for conferring a chieftaincy title on a popular notorious bandit leader, Ada Aleru.
A report had emerged earlier the emirate decided to give Aleru a traditional title with the aim of finding lasting peace in the crisis-ravaged Tsafe and Yandoton Daji emirates and other areas of Zamfara and Katsina states, which the terrorist had constantly attacked with his fighters.
Naija News learnt that the title conferment followed dialogue between the elders of the emirate and the terror leader.
The elders of the emirate had in March asked the deadly bandit to stop attacking communities in the emirate.
The state government, however, barely 24 hours after the chieftaincy title conferment on the terrorist, announced the suspension of the monarch involved with immediate effect.
The development was confirmed in a statement by the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Kabiru Balarabe Sardauna, Naija News reports.
The government hence, assigned the District Head of ‘Yandoto, Alhaji Mahe Garba Marafa to take charge of the affairs of the emirate.
10. Sacked Oyo Deputy Gov, Olaniyan Reacts To Panel Report That Found Him Guilty
The impeached Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Rauf Aderemi Olaniyan has reacted to the report of the seven-man panel which recommended his removal from office.

Speaking about the verdict, Olaniyan in a statement by his lawyer on Monday faulted the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Munta Abimbola, over the constitution of the seven-man panel, alleging that the panel raised to investigate him was paid to do what they did.
He described the panel as a charade, adding that it’s unfortunate that the panel members allowed themselves to be used to do a dirty job.
