While confirming his defection to APGA on Friday, Abaribe said he has dropped his governorship ambition and would instead be seeking re-election into the senate on the platform.
He told Vanguard that he will be participating in the party’s senatorial primaries on Saturday.
According to the former Senate Minority Leader, he has fully registered with APGA.
It was gathered that APGA leaders had last Sunday begged Abaribe to defect to the party, promising him free senatorial ticket if he wanted.
When contacted, a member of APGA Board of Trustees BoT, Chief Ahamdi Nweke said Senator Abaribe “is now fully with APGA”.
”The most- ranking Senator in Abia has joined the progressives to deliver Abia from the crutches of the forces that have held the state down,” he said.
”He is coming with hundreds and thousands of PDP members who are aggrieved by the lack of internal democracy in the party.”
Recall that Abaribe had announced his resignation from the PDP in two separate letters – one addressed to his Ward Chairman and the other to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, dated 24th and 26th May, 2022 respectively.
