Selena Gomez Opens Up About Being Body-shamed

Lose You To Love Me’ singer, Selena Gomez has had a mix of hate and love relationship from the public and of the many negativity she has had to face, body-shaming is one of them.

In recent times, the singer cum actress has been more open about her personal life and in a new interview, she has  opened up about being body-shamed during her battle with lupus.

In October 2015, Gomez announced to her millions of fans that she had been diagnosed with lupus, now while speaking with her BFF Raquelle Stevens on the video podcast, Giving Back Generation, Gomez discussed how it felt to experience her health issues in the public eye and be “attacked” online following her weight gain.

Talking about the negative comments that “really messed me up for a bit,” she said:

“I have lupus and deal with kidney issues and high blood pressure, so I deal with a lot of health issues, and for me that’s when I really started noticing more of the body image stuff,”she explained, clarifying that there are “combination” of things that affect her weight, including the medication she has to take for the rest of her life.

“[My weight fluctuation] depends on even the month, to be honest, so for me, I really noticed when people started attacking me for that. And in reality, that’s just my truth. I fluctuate. It depends what’s happening in my life,” she said. “That got to me big time. That really messed me up for a bit.”

The criticism eventually led her to take a social media break, as well as taught her to stay in the present moment.

“I’m very happy with living my life and being present,” the 27-year-old pop star said. “I will do a red carpet, I will do whatever; I don’t need to see it; I participated; I felt wonderful and that’s where the extent of it is. I don’t care to expose myself to everyone and hear what they have to say.”
