 I met with His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari after my meeting with the IGP, to present the demands of the Lagos #SARSMUSTEND protesters.
The President restated his commitment to embark on a total reform of the entire Police Force with immediate effect.
Earlier today, the President approved a panel made up of Civil Society leaders to look at all the cases of abuse and intimidation by the police, with a view to finding a lasting solution to it.
The benefits of this genuine and powerful movement by the youths will be fully realized, their voices have been heard loud and clear, and I will continue to work with them to defend the rights of all Lagosians as I have continuously promised to.
The Lagos state Governor also disclosed that he met with the Inspector-General of Police, Adamu Mohammed. Sanwo-Olu further stated that he relayed the grievances of the protesters to him and also presented him with their demands.
He added;
I had an intense engagement on my arrival in Abuja with the Inspector General of Police. Mohammed Adamu.
I relayed the grievances of the protesters to him. And presented him with their demands.
Accountability and rule of law was top on the agenda of my meeting with him.
Stringent laws are being put together as a guide towards the new Nigerian Police.He gave me his commitment to look into all cases of abuses and human rights violations, and promised that all erring officers will be brought to book.
This is just the beginning of a mutually beneficial partnership between the Nigerian Police and citizens. We will not rest until there’s a total overhaul of all our security outfits.
