Sachet Water Producers Hike ‘Pure Water’ Price to ₦300 Per Bag

Sachet water producers in Kano State have announced an increase in the price of sachet water, popularly called “pure water,” citing rising production costs, TRUETELLS Nigeria reports.

Under the new pricing, a bag of sachet water that previously sold for ₦220 will now go for a minimum of ₦300 across the state.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Public Relations Officer of the Association of Table Water Producers in Kano State, Anas Idris Hassan, explained that the adjustment became necessary due to the sharp rise in the cost of key production materials.

Hassan revealed that the price of printing film for packaging has surged to about ₦3,700, while gas and fuel costs for running production facilities have reached around ₦1,500 per litre.

He also cited the unstable electricity supply in the state as a major factor, noting that many sachet water factories now rely heavily on generators, significantly raising operational costs.

The association described the price hike as a last resort to ensure producers can continue supplying safe drinking water to residents.

Ahmad Bala Hudu, the association’s Chairman, emphasized that the move is necessary to prevent a collapse of the sachet water industry, as many producers struggle with rising production and energy costs.

Despite the increase, Hudu urged producers to maintain strict adherence to approved water purification standards and proper maintenance of treatment systems, including reverse osmosis. He added that the association is working with health authorities to conduct regular inspections and that any violations will be reported to law enforcement.

The association appealed to residents of Kano State for understanding during this period, particularly as demand for drinking water rises amid the holy month of Ramadan, TRUETELLS Nigeria reports.
