Rotary Club of Maryland commissions ICT center at Community Junior School

 

In bid to give students a better leaning in the information and communication technology and for them to compete with international standards, the Rotary Club of Maryland has commissioned a new well equipped ICT center at Community Junior School, Wasimi, Lagos.

Speaking at the commissioning of the ICT center the president of the Rotary Club of Maryland Lagos, Rotarian Adewale Sani, said that the club saw the need to improve the learning capabilities of students in the school in line with information technology.

“ We are commissioning an ICT center that comprises of 13 systems, generator sect, Air conditioning unit, project, speakers and other ICT equipments to enhance the learning of students in this school.

“ initially when we came around the school we understood that they don’t have the equipments for the students to use in studying so we decided to provide them with these necessary things to help them with their learning in ICT.

We have plans to have trainings for the teachers on a new knowledge called designed thinking which we are working on to enlighten them more so they can impact on the students.

We already have arrangements with the principal to teach the students on how to create websites, build app and other things.

Also speaking the project chairman Rotary Club of Maryland, Mr Bello Maruf said that the essence of the Programme is to get the students to know more on the ICT.

“ The essence of the Programme is that we saw the need that these students needs to have knowledge of information technology. When we came to school we suggested so many projects to the school management and we came to the conclusion that the ICT center is the most important and critical for the students to learn as they already had a computer lab without equipment.

Part of our plans is to train the teachers in ITC so they can teach the students.

The systems are well equipped for learning with projectors for synergy with the teachers and students.” Bello said.

Thanking the Rotary Club of Maryland the principal of the community junior school, Wasimi, Mrs Olu Funmilola, said that the equipments will help the students in their academic life.

“ I am the happiest person today, because we are in the age of technology and students that are not technologically intelligent is going nowhere. I thank the Rotary club of Maryland for the wonderful project because for years back now the students cannot operate computers, we only teach them practical aspect.

We need to move with this technological times and this project is a step in the right direction” She said.

The school’s Head Boy, Bello Abdullahi was bet thankful to the Rotary Club of Maryland, noting that these project will help improve their studies as they have been yearning for it.
