Queen Elizabeth Death : EFL Releases New Rules As Premier League Returns Tuesday

After a weekend break, the English Football League announced on Monday that matches will resume on Tuesday across all leagues, including the three divisions below the Premier League.

The announcement came with new rules stating that in honour of late England’s Queen Elizabeth II, flags would be flown at half-mast and the national anthem would be played in stadiums during matches.

Truetells Nigeria recalls that the organizers on Friday, suspended all Premier League fixtures for last weekend to mourn the death of England’s Queen.

This news platform had announced earlier that Britain’s longest-reigned monarch died on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at the age of 96.

Suspension of the football games also affected women’s Super League from the top to the lower tiers of the football pyramid and grassroots.

However, in a new development on Monday, the EFL confirmed tributes would be paid to the Queen at grounds across England as matches resume this week

The terse statement read: “A minute’s silence will be held before matches, with black armbands to be worn by participants, flags to be flown at half-mast and the National Anthem to be played in stadiums,” it said in a statement.

With a national policing plan now in operation, the League and clubs will continue to work with forces in respect of any challenges that may emerge regarding policing of specific fixtures.”
