Nigerians on social media have strongly criticised Nollywood actress and podcaster Biola Adebayo following her recent interview with convicted actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha.
The interview, which has gone viral online, features Baba Ijesha insisting that the incident leading to his conviction was a setup. He claimed parts of the situation were connected to preparations for a movie project.
During the conversation, the actor also spoke about his past relationship with fellow actress Iyabo Ojo, alleging that she once entrusted him with the care of her children, Festus and Priscilla, when they were younger.
However, Iyabo Ojo has firmly denied the claim, warning Baba Ijesha to stop mentioning her children in his narrative. She also threatened legal action if he continues to involve them in the controversy.
The interview has since sparked widespread backlash, with many Nigerians accusing Biola Adebayo of giving a platform to someone convicted of sexual offences involving a minor. Critics argued that such exposure could trivialise the seriousness of the case.
Several social media users expressed anger and disappointment, describing the decision to host the interview as insensitive. Some questioned the rationale behind allowing Baba Ijesha to share his version of events, while others warned that the move could damage Adebayo’s public image.
Others insisted that individuals convicted of such crimes should not be given public platforms to defend themselves, especially on sensitive matters, stressing that the interview may reopen wounds for those affected by the case.
The controversy continues to generate heated debate online, with opinions sharply divided over issues of accountability, free expression, and the responsibility of media platforms in handling sensitive subjects.
