Police Officer Shoots Colleague Dead In Plateau

 

A policeman has accidentally shot his colleague in Plateau state, SaharaReporters has learnt.

 

The deceased officer was identified as Tanko Emmanuel.

 

SaharaReporters gathered that the incident happened on Wednesday around Ahmadu Bello Way in Jos.

 

Security operatives were deployed to the area by the state government to enforce clearance of traders from the road.

 

While the deceased was allegedly arguing with a civilian, one of his colleagues was said to have accidentally fired a bullet that hit him.

 

A source said, “A 48-year-old policeman identified as Tanko Emmanuel was shot to death in Ahmadu Bello Way Jos on Wednesday while enforcing the clearance of traders from the road on the order of the state government,” a source told SaharaReporters.

 

“The team was led by one Inspector Haruna, while the dead policeman and one civilian were arguing, another officer fired a shot, that was how this officer Tanko who is from Akwanga division was hit by a stray bullet.

 

“May Almighty God give his family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss and may the Almighty Allah continue to protect security operatives from catastrophic incidents like this.”

 

The Plateau State Police Command spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, did not answer calls from SaharaReporters.

 

He also did not reply to a text message sent to his mobile line.
