The Nigeria Police Force, Kano State command, has confirmed the arrest of a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aminu Ali Shana, with 367 suspected Permanent Voters Cards, PVC.
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State earlier raised the alarm, alleging that some politicians in the state were hoarding and buying PVCs from voters in areas where they doubt their chances of performing well in the 2023 general elections.
However in a statement issued to newsmen in Kano on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Haruna Abdullahi, the police noted that the suspect had been taken into their custody, adding that investigation had commenced.
According to the statement, Aminu, who is the APC Chairman of the Yautan Arewa ward in Gabasawa Local Government Area of the State, was arrested on October 14, 2022.
“The police had dispatched the suspected PVCs to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for confirmation. After that, all the persons whose faces appeared on the cards might be invited for questioning,” the statement added.
The offence is said to be contravenes Section 21 and 22 sub-section 1(a), (b) and (c) of the Electoral Act (amended).
